What Are Chakras?

Chakras are the main focal points in the body that help us bring balance to our lives physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. There are seven main chakras that work as a spinning wheel of energy that flows in and around your body.

The seven main chakras are:

  • Root Chakra: located at the base of the spine
  • Sacral Chakra: located below the naval
  • Solar Plexus Chakra: located at the solar plexus space of the body
  • Heart Chakra: located at the heart space of the body
  • Throat Chakra: located at the throat space of the body
  • Third-Eye Chakra: located between the eyebrows at the center of the head
  • Crown Chakra: located in the middle of the top of the head

Each chakra plays a unique role in your well-being. When each chakra is open and balanced, your chi (life force energy) can flow freely and feel energizing, revitalizing, and harmonious.

When a chakra is blocked, you may feel one of several different symptoms, such as pain or stiffness in your lower back and hips, imbalance of emotions including feeling closed off, or experience sexual and reproductive issues.

Opening your chakras is a mindful opportunity to reconnect with your mind, body, and spirit. You can do this from the comfort of your home or travel to a relaxing chakra healing center for a destination getaway.

When opening up the energy centers in your body, sometimes meditation or wearing the color of the blocked chakra can balance your chakras.

If you notice you are feeling off emotionally and don’t know where to start, the most effective chakra to begin with, is your root chakra or your heart chakra.

The root chakra is the foundation of life. Think of it as a home base for your spirit. When the root chakra is balanced, you are grounded and level-headed when facing challenges in life. Staying grounded is a powerful tool for mental and emotional well-being. It will lower your chances of being “thrown off” by an upsetting and stressful event.

A simple practice to unblock your root chakra is to reconnect with nature. Go on a hike or sit by a tree and read a book. With the help of fresh air and being surrounded by the beauty of nature can be the perfect dose of medicine for your mind, body, and soul.

The heart chakra bridges the lower and upper chakras integrating the manifest with the spiritual. Being mindful of keeping the heart chakra open brings you a great sense of love toward yourself and love toward others.

When your heart chakra is blocked, you may feel lonely, have a rise in blood pressure, or not trust your inner voice. Not tending to your heart chakra may disrupt your body’s other energy centers (chakras).

Showing up for yourself with love and gratitude is the key to keeping your heart chakra open. Stating words of affirmation and practicing self-love is a great way to start. Show kindness to others and watch how the universe reciprocates that love to you.

When it comes to the chakras, the tools to unblock them are an excellent practice of mindfulness and self-care from the comfort of your home. If you wish for a deeper understanding and to develop more tools, attending healing centers is a wonderful place to begin.

Chakra Healing Centers Around the World

Chakra Healing Centers Around the World

Healing centers have various names and can be found anywhere around the world, even near you!  Many local yoga studios host workshops and have specific classes on the schedule dedicated to chakra balancing and healing.

When you are looking for a restorative type of vacation, a few of the different names you will find chakra healing retreats listed under:

Many of these retreats offer three-day, five-day, or week-long stay accommodations. They aim to help you achieve your health, personal, and spiritual goals. Suppose you are still determining what you wish to accomplish. In that case, they all have a survey section for you to fill out about yourself, and a representative will respond via phone or email.

One of our favorite things about these retreats is the like-minded souls you will meet. Some are regulars to these retreats, and some are new to the experience. Many come from all paths of life.

Most importantly, the experience is about you and your journey. You are achieving a great sense of self and learning new tools to optimize your way of life and your health.

Chakras are sometimes forgotten when we get wrapped up in the day-to-day stresses of life. Taking the time to check in with ourselves daily can help us stay aligned and balanced.

“Whenever you feel threatened or afraid, a soothing method to try is to place your hands over your third chakra, right in the middle of your stomach, and breathe deliberately and slowly until you feel calm. In doing so, you will actually begin to feel stronger and more protected. Breath gives us life, and it is the source of our power.” — Sonia Choquette.

Suppose you know that one of your seven chakras is blocked. In that case, we have a “Chakra Series” of blogs that go deep down the rabbit hole of each chakra to help alleviate your symptoms by unblocking your chakras and have you feeling back at peace in no time at all.
